Heroes Journey 2019
Heroes Journey 2019
End of year events have been an important part of the L.A.P. curriculum since we began running classes in Arlington in 2007. Part LARP back story, part graduation ceremony, these events follow the students through their foundation curriculum in middle school.
Each event is largely organized and put on by the corresponding class of high school youth, with the guidance of our adult staff, as a way to contribute to the inter-generational learning of our community.

Many students have found it rewarding to not only PC their own end-of-year-event, but also to NPC those of the other classes. This event entails PC participation in one event and NPC participation in the remaining two events. The schedule for the year events are as follows:
1st Year Event: The Call will be held on Saturday April 27th from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
2nd Year Event: The Descent will be held on Friday April 26th from 8:00pm to 12:00am.
Deep in the Stone Knife mountains lays the small village of Casadoras. This small village has been tormented by a family of vampires for many years. After a long year without the Heroes to help them fight off the vampires, the village has been struggling and the Heroes are finally back to save them from this terrible fate.
3rd Year Event : The Return will be held from Saturday April 27th at 2:00pm to Sunday April 28th at 2:00pm.
It has been some time since the heroes were last called to the coastal lands of Piscemal. It has been some time since they learned the dark and secret nature of Rhea’s Blight, since the Talons of the Suns revealed their true colors, since the death of Viclen Nester. In the weeks and months following those events, the Heroes resolved to return as soon as they were able. But fate had other plans, and more apocalyptic threats drew all the attention of the defenders of the Crystal.
Then, in the heat of the summer, any hope of returning was destroyed. As the Heroes were pushed out of Forlork by the Ashen King and forced to retreat to Galen’s Hold, the demon armies overtook all of the Reach— including Piscemal. The demons razed everything in their path, leaving few to no survivors, and the Heroes believed all of Piscemal and their allies there to be lost. They allowed themselves to mourn, before turning to focus on the protection of the Crystal.
But the sands of Etheraz continue to shift, and recently there have been reports of strange things coming from the area around Piscemal Bay. Scouts tell tales of demons fighting demons, of villages which should be at the center of the chaos utterly untouched by the destruction, and of odd spikes of magical energy. Hoping to determine what is happening, the leaders of the Heroes send those familiar with Piscemal to return there, to the enigmatic Aderyn Orana and the devious Raghnall Caito, to find answers about what they left behind. Will they find desolation? Plague? Terror? Or is it possible that they could find hope? In the conclusion to the Piscemal event series, only the Gods know what the Heroes will discover in the lands they have failed to defend.
In this setting, we find a co-creative community where we learn to not only appreciate ourselves, but to appreciate others as we hold space for their self discovery. By being part of a container, we can learn that sometimes the most rewarding moments in life are the ones that we leave no footprints in. Rather, we understand the beauty and strength that comes with transcending knowledge from one generation to the next and being a steward that fosters the joy of life.
