Upcoming Youth Events for Spring 2018!

April Vacation Residential Camp - Ministerium I : Origins of the Arcane
Date: April 15th to 20th
Location: Camp Middlesex in Ashby, MA
Event Description:
“We all have history. And we all make it” - Aelen Orben,  ‘A Brief History of Etheraz’ Vol. III
What is the nature of magic? One might as well ask what is the nature of man, and the answers would be just as different for each. However, in the lands of Etheraz, one group claims to have the only answer: The Ministirium of Factorum Arcanum, better known as The Ministry. Anywhere great power has been found on Etheraz, the Ministry places themselves in the position of magical enforcers, regulating and controlling the practice to their powerful organization. From the height of the Eldranian Kings, now, to the throne of Leto Lacore, Emperor of Aletheia. Journey into the heart of this organization, where youth who exhibit strong magical potential have been taken from their families and placed into the Sparhawk Academy, overlooking the sleepy town of Evenda. Encounter legendary heroes and villains, making their first moves in a dangerous game of power. Discover the dark secrets that turned the Ministry from a force for good, to a corrupt vessel for evil. Discover the origins of Arcane. Discover what it means to be a hero. The sequel series to the beloved Fire’s Dawn story is coming. The question is, are you ready?

This event will be a six day residential vacation experience for ages 10+. It will be a mixture of event time and workshops, culminating in a 24-hour in-game period!

Heroes Journey
Date: April 27th to 29th
Location:  Camp Denison in Georgetown, MA
Event Description:
End of year events have been an important part of the L.A.P. curriculum since we began running classes in Arlington in 2007. Part LARP back story, part graduation ceremony, these events follow the students through their foundation curriculum in middle school. Each event is largely organized and put on by the corresponding class of high school youth, with the guidance of our adult staff, as a way to contribute to the inter-generational learning of our community. Many students have found it rewarding to not only PC their own end-of-year-event, but also to NPC those of the other classes. This event entails PC participation in one event and NPC participation in the remaining two events

In this setting, we find a co-creative community where we learn to not only appreciate ourselves, but to appreciate others as we hold space for their self discovery. By being part of a container, we can learn that sometimes the most rewarding moments in life are the ones that we leave no footprints in. Rather, we understand the beauty and strength that comes with transcending knowledge from one generation to the next and being a steward that fosters the joy of life.

Union Under Shadows (Girl's Event)
Date: May 25th to 28th
Location: Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Rutland, MA
Event Description:
Each year, some of our heroes journey into the Faelands in order to discover the mysterious and magical secrets that lie within. However, in the Faelands, nothing is as it seems. The heroes must use their cleverness, emotional intelligence, and innate power to outwit the fae, face monsters thought to be myth, and ultimately save the faelands from the great and terrible darkness threatening to overtake it.

At this event, the L.A.P. community explicitly celebrates our female members - the women and girls who contribute so much to the greater community. We choose to do this by extending the invitation to take part as a PC only to the female members of our community, while members of any gender are welcome and encouraged to attend as NPCs. As a radically inclusive community, we include all those who identify as female, regardless of birth designation, in this invitation.

If you could walk into your favorite book, play, tv show or movie. What if you could become your favorite character in this story. Then you discover that you could control all the decisions, actions, directions, of this character, being able to influence the plot and outcome of the story in this fantastic world, living as they do. What would you do? What would you become?

We believe that imagination and play are paramount for the human experience. These qualities enrich communities that create exciting and awesome experiences . These experiences are the very thing that foster life and fantastic human interactions. We strive to create spaces year after year that do just that through immersive story experinces or live action role play.

What is an immersive story experience?

Immersive story experience, live action roleplaying, or LARP, is a collaborative and interactive community arts that allows the participants to plunge themselves fully into different worlds or, even universes. With an array of costuming, props and scenography, this setting becomes the backdrop for a unique and astounding experience.

We Are Imagination.

Be part of a community that is safe, welcoming and embraces the authentic self.

We promote and preserve the value of imagination and play through nurturing community that encourages self expression. We are committed to fostering the joy of life.  We do this by the methodologies of multiple intelligences, multiple literacies, 21st century skills, immersive storytelling and transformational experiences. Our goal is to create global community spaces that offer world class experiences.

LARP Adventure Program is an interactive and improvisational theater program in which participants create a storyline featuring a heroic character. Through acting out the plot of the story, characters evolve and grow. LARP space holders emphasize community, communication skills and creativity and foster a safe space for exploring life skills through role play. Enjoyable aspects include the collaborative creation of a story, the opportunity to overcome challenges, the pursuit of a character’s objectives and game-like aspects such as intellectual puzzles and athletic play.

Our services include afterschool and evening programming for youths aged 10-18, weekend full-immersion events throughout the year for youth and adults, day camps during school vacations and summer break and multiple weeks of our premiere residential camp experiences!

Through the language and methods of Transformational Leadership through Drama we are able to cultivate the secret gifts within and bring ourselves to a deeper understanding of human consciousness and self-actualization.
