SPECIAL NOTES ON THE EVENDA PROGRAM

Our academic year curriculum runs for 5 sessions, with each session lasting two months. Sessions run from September to the end of June. Each session covers a different topic intrinsic to LARP activities and to the community arts. We're proud to say that our curriculum not only covers educational benchmarks for the theatre arts, STEM learning, multiple intelligence education and more, but we also foster an environment where youth can make life-long friends and build a community to call their own.

Session 1 - Sep and Oct: Character Creation – Make original heroes to play LARP, discover your own personal legend within.

Session 2 - Nov and Dec: Martial Arts for Self Confidence and Self Control – How to play the game with respect for one self and other.

Session 3 - Jan and Feb: DIY Projects – Build your own LARP gear, learn to think creatively and make solutions.

Session 4 - Mar and Apr: How to Play LARP – Rules and how to use your character abilities and have game play adequate.

Session 5 - May and June: Event Prep and Playing your Character, Time to celebrate for all your hard work and apply the skills you have learned.

Each year the student attends, their skills are further attuned to these foundational LARP and educational subjects. After three years of completion of classes and projects, students are encouraged to apply for our community arts leadership program called the Evenda Marshals Academy where youth learn how to host and run LARPs.

Please note that we highly recommend for any student who wishes to attend Mod Day Mondays and LARP Games Fridays that they attend curriculum classes. By doing so, they will learn how to participate in the game of LARP as well as learn the important pillars of our community. In addition, for students to progress in the program (i.e. gain experience points to grow their character), they must attend curriculum classes and / or events.  Attending Mod Day Mondays and / or LARP Games Fridays without curriculum classes will not earn experience points. We see these classes as a form of entertainment and a reward for the self-development, community development and educational programming we do during the rest of the week.

Evenda Mobile Phone: 857-204-0145

Staff members at the Arlington / Evenda location will have an L.A.P. mobile phone on site for all concerns during programming time. When you need to contact staff members while the Evenda program is taking place, please use this number. For billing issues and other matters related to the office, please contact 617-701-7583.

Absences

At any point during the year, if a student is going to be missing from program, we ask that parents notify the L.A.P. staff as soon as possible so we can adjust the attendance accordingly. Email notificiation is preferred if the absence is known prior to the day of the absence. However, for last-minute absences (e.g. illness) please call / text the Evenda mobile phone with the details of your youth's absence.

Without notification of an absence by 3:15 p.m. on the day of program, our on-site staff will begin calling all available contact numbers for parents / guardians. Staff members will continue to call until they receive a verbal confirmation from a parent / guardian of the intended absence and will leave voicemails accordingly.

Materials Fee

At the beginning of the school year, we collect a materials fee for the DIY curriculum in session three. Participants who pay the fee for the session will be able to bring home their built projects and keep them for personal use. While DIY projects usually take place during the third session, we collect materials fees early as some materials take a fair amount of time to be delivered.

Event Fee

Each year we run a celebration adventure for each of our student years - 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year students, as well as our high school students. These events are run over the course of one weekend in early May, with the option to stay on site for all three events or come only for the individual year event.  All those who attend curriculum classes are expected to attend these events as they are the culmination of all they have been learning during the academic year.

Details, including date and cost, will be released near the end of Fall.

Late Fees

For late pick-ups from program and events, we will be allowing a ten minute grace period after the end of the program or event at no charge. After those ten minutes have elapsed, we will be charging $10 for every five-minute period that the youth is still with us. We assume that high school youth are allowed to leave programming  by themselves unless told otherwise, but this is especially pertinent to events not local to Arlington.

For late payments, we will be incurring a fee per increment for every two-week period that a payment is late. As a reminder, the day that a payment is postmarked is how we deem when it has been sent to us. In addition, we are always flexible to make payment plans as needed, please communicate with us before payments are due.

Extended Day

For extended day programing, we open immediately after the Arlington Public Schools lets out. Students who are signed up for programming on that day, may attended for no addition charge. Students interested in attending for the day that are not regularly signed up for that day, may attend for a fee of $25.

From whenever school let out until 2:30pm, students have a free range of activities including board games, magic cards and, if the weather permits, LARP games outside. In addition, we will also hold a Magic: The Gathering draft for students interested, at an additional charge of $10 to participate. From 2:30pm on, we resume the day with our regularly scheduled curriculum.

Graduation Ceremony

Near the end of the school year in June, the entire L.A.P. community comes together for an inter-generational graduation ceremony. During this ceremony, students receive their certificates for completing the year's curriculum. In addition, student talents and accomplishments are showcased for all in attendance. We cordially invite all family members and friends of the youth receiving certificates to attend the event.

Details, including date and time, will be released near the end of Fall. There is no charge for attending the graduation ceremony.
